Words from the Past: Looking to the Future

EFN recently located an online copy of the 1977 documentary ‘Nishnawbe-Aski: The People and the Land.’

This short film outlines some of the challenges faced and foreseen across the north in the late ’70s; much of it driven by the potential of resource development and possible infrastructure. While the trigger then was forestry, many of the fears and anticipated impacts are similar to today – 40 years later.

Note many familiar faces in the section on Eabametoong, and a young Chief Charlie Okeese @ the 15:00min mark.
